Everybody puts on a face in the morning, even boys
Not because of vanity, but the process of grooming hides the insecurities that we all feel
I'll start off with my own......
I get my haircut to trim away the bad thoughts that may linger on the long strands of kinky hair
That same haircut is lined up to place a fence around my brain to guard me from those same horrid thoughts that would try and seduce me
My homegirl plucks my eyebrows so I can see further into the world and at the same time see deeper into ones soul
I trim my mustache with perfection not to outline my dark lips but to
shed those whiskers that would attempt to cage my voice inside of my mouth
I shave around my goatee til' my hair stands in a point, pointing me in the direction I never want to take, down
I put my face on every morning to prepare for the day, and truthfully
I feel beautiful, but being prepared is a beautiful feeling
It would be wrong of me not to mention the opposite sex
I feel like only one woman can poetically portray a girl's perspective
So I will try my best to offer a proper rendition until that one poet realizes I was talking about her
She combs her hair, stroking it hundreds and hundreds of times
Not to relieve herself of her hair's tangles, but to remove the the confusion and tangles in her mind
She applies eye shadow to guard herself from any lies
She applies eye liner to sharpen her sense of sight; allowing her to see clearly through walls of lies and deceptions
She sticks earrings in her earlobes to stretch out her ears slightly, allowing more sound to float through her ears
She applies foundation to her face to hide the scars of her life that has appeared on naturally beautiful face
Then she places blush on her cheeks, making it easier for her emotions to show
But at the same time, the blush also adds added protection to the woman
Making it almost impossible to read her
She applies lipstick so that her words glide off of her mouth with a sweetness about them,
But what happens when that lipstick is smeared
Does her words become callous or do they become real?
Just a thought for the mind
We all have faces
Some we show, some we hide
But to love all of these faces, one must be called narcissitc
But what if I'm just in love with my face because I know the reasons
why I groom my face?
We all have a little make up on
Maybe a few people are born with it
But mostly, it's Maybeline
