Later on that morning, the smell of sausage and eggs and toast wafted throughout the house, waking Nic Angel out of his slumber and causing him to sleepily walk down the winding stairs. Gun Man looked like a professional chef as he flipped the omelots and the sausage. He heard Nic coming up behind him and he turned around and smiled, quickly turning back around to continue cooking. Nic rubbed his eyes sleepily and asked, "What you cooking, man?"
The smoke from the cooking meat floated over Gun Man's face, covering his smile. "Some Cajun Sausage and eggs, my favorite breakfast to make. I might make me some cinnamon toast too if I feel like it. I don't really wanna miss my show. You want some homie?"
"Sure....." Nic looked at the TV and scratched his head, confused. He looked back at Gun Man, then looked back at the TV. He looked at Gun Man, then back at the TV. He wondered what interest Gun Man would have in a show about three goofy white kids getting into trouble. He looked back Gun Man and he asked sarcastically, "Dude, what are you watching?"
The excitement level in Gun Man's voice rose like ten levels when he began talking about the preubescent children's show. It was like he was thirteen years old. He turned around with a giant smile on his face and his spatula erect in his hand, and he began to explain the complexities of one of his favorite shows. "I'm watching Rock Out! This show crazy as hell! It's about this girl who got this band up in Seattle." He explained more about this show while waving the greasy spatula around. "The lead singer is this super sexy, super sweet girl whose older brother manages the band. She's not really the funny one though. Her brother is hilarious, man, he's so dumb! But he a pimp though. All the ladies love Caleb." Gun Man laughed while Nic looked at him with a ridiculous look. "The guitar player is her dorky best friend, Felipe, but he ain't that funny either. My favorite character has to be there bad ass homegirl, Sara. She super cool. Her mama is a Crazie, so she has superpowers like superstrength and a super short temper. She be beating up people, picking on Felipe, and she always got something crazy to say, look she coming up now."
Nic saw the smile on Gun Man's face and shook his head. He turned his head and looked at the television show. He saw Sara next to the main character trying to figure out a way into Felipe's apartment. Gun Man watched with his eyes big as the main character complained about not being able to confront Felipe. While the main character was complaining, Sara pulled out her trademark eating fork and began to pick the lock. The main character defiantly threw her fists against her hips, exclaiming how Sara couldn't pick the lock, and just that instant, she picked the lock. Gun Man laughed loudly as they waltzed into a shocked Felipe's apartment, and confronted him about some girlfriend he had aquired, and Gun Man just laughed while shaking his head. "Ol' Fillip! Always falling soft for these girls. Glad I ain't like that."
Then more smoke bellowed around his face, offering him a reminder that he was still cooking. He turned around in a hurry and got right to work on his eggs and sausage throwing all of the done articles of food onto a large plate. He turned the vent to suck up the smoke and he turned around with a smile on his face. Nic shook his head and asked smugly, "You gon' turn the stove off?"
Gun Man quickly turned around and flicked the dial in control of the heat emanating from the eye. Then he turned around as if nothing had ever happened. "Hey don't tell nobody but God bout this, man. If Chevy and them caught wind of this one here, they'd never let me live it down."
"Which part do you not want me to tell 'em about? The part where you almost burned breakfast or the part where you watching kid shows?"
Gun Man laughed loudly, "Awwww man, I don't care if anybody know that I like Rock Out! Them girls sexy on there yeah."
Nic raised an eyebrow and replied, "Aint they a little young for you, Gun Man?"
Gun Man disregarded Nic with a simple hand gesture, "Man, I met them before. Took this little E-v out there to meet the actors matter of fact. They just a little bit younger than me and let me tell you, they're a lot cuter in person. Especially Sara." Gun Man smiled. "I love a bad girl."
"Me too."
They both laughed as Gun Man offered Nic a plate. "Get you some food, homie." Nic smiled and grabbed a couple of well done sausages and some eggs. "You want something to drink?"
"What you got?"
Gun Man opened the large refrigerator and Nic's green eyes looked like watermelons popping from out of his eye sockets as Gun Man revealed all of contents of his refrigerator. "Niceeee."
"Yeah, definitely." Nic said with a grin as large as his head.
"Check it out though, you got Classic, Spritz, some girly flavored water that the girls be drinking." Gun Man shook his head. "Disgusting. But yeah off that though, we got all sorts a brews in here, Steele Cans, some Specials, but uh if you ain tryna get drunk before breakfast, we got some orange juice, some milk."
"Milk."
"You're so white, dude."
"Nah, I'm Irish, but I love milk with my breakfast."
"I guess. Me....I'm more of a Classic man with my breakfast."
They walked into the living room laughing and joking with each other. "Soda for breakfast? Sounds a little unhealthy, don't you think?"
He smiled and laughed, "Nah, not for me. I live dangerously, my man."
"How dangerously can you live watching Rock Out!?"
The sarcasm in Nic's voice didn't go unnoticed, but then again, he didn't really care either. "Whatever dude, you can't deny, them girls fine yeah."
"Yeah, they are sexy."
Nic had to agree with Gun Man on this issue. "But being the eligible bachelor that I am, I can't fall soft for these females."
"You mean to tell me that you ain't never thought about settling down?"
Gun Man smirked smugly and answered, "Not really homie. Not unless I find that person for me."
"But what if you don't find that perfect person? You gonna be single forever?"
Gun Man yelled excitedly, "Hell yeah! I don't compromise homie, not when it comes to girls. I been around Chevy too long and seen too many girls do scandolous things to ever just fall for anything walking homie. That's just how I feel about that there. When I find that girl, I'm a wife her, real talk, but until then, I'm just sticking to the script, ya' know the motto, don't ya?" Nic shook his head. "You don't know the motto? M.O.B, homie. Ya' know, money over....."
Before Gun Man could finish his sentence, he heard a girl clear her throat in the background and he knew he was in trouble. He turned around with an 'oh shit' face to see both Lady Gun and Gun Baby standing behind them with crossed arms and scowled faces. All he could do was smile and say in a light voice, "Wassuppp?", while under his breath, he said, "Damnnnnnnn!"
His large eyes gave away his guilt as he received angry eyes from two cranky girls who knew full well what the motto meant. Gun Man looked at Nic for reinforcement but he just shook, nonverbally saying, "I ain't got nothing to do with this one."
He looked at them to see that they were still looking at him as though they were staring into the eyes of the devil. Baby Gun finally spoke up with rage dangling from her teeth, she said through her teeth, "You better shut up!"
Gun Man knew he was in trouble then. He took his hat off to show respect for the ladies in his presence and he rubbed the waves in his hair. He looked away, knowing his mouth had just landed him in some trouble. He looked up laughing, hoping his jovial laugh would ease the tension. "So uhhhhhh y'all hungry? I got some breakfast in the kitchen if y'all want." He closed his eyes laughing as if nothing was wrong.
When he opened his eyes, he saw Lady Gun and Gun Baby smiling, shaking their heads. Lady Gun finally spoke up before retiring to the kitchen. "Oh Gun Man. I could never be mad at you, baby. I'm just glad you're safe."
They walked into the kitchen and Gun Man wiped the metaphorical sweat off of his forehead. He looked at Nic, who just shook his head in a disappointment, almost as if his idol had just let him down. He whispered just loud enough for only Gun Man to hear him. "Pussy."
Gun Man didn't take offense, but he did snap back in a retaliatory but humorous manner. "Hey! Shut up! You don't know Kylie, man. She crazy, her and Kayla both, man, especially in the morning." Nic just continued to shake his head, antagonizing Gun Man. Gun Man, sensing his buttons were being pushed, shook his head and turned on his heel, replying, "I'll be right back, man "
He walked into the kitchen where the ladies were eating and smiling. They continued to stuff sausages into their mouths. He looked at the two ladies he had loved for his entire life and he had spoke softly as to not have Nic hear him talk to them. "You know I love y'all right" They both looked at him smiling, in their own unique way returning the love back to him. "I just want y'all to know that and know that you and mama and Bailey and all the womens in my life got a special place in my heart ya' understand.
Brandy popped in his head and tear wanted to come from his eye, but he held the pain of knowing Kayla's former best friend had become a prostitute and one of the reasons he had felt the way he had toward women.
Lady Gun looked up from her plate and smiled. She replied, "We know, love. We love you too, and you know that ain't gonna ever change."
Gun Man smiled and he started to leave, but before he left the kitchen, he gave an order, an offer that the two ladies couldn't refuse. "When y'all get through, y'all come outside. Bring Chevy. I got something to show y'all." They nodded and that was all on that subject until later.
Outside, Nic and Gun Man leaned on the land cruiser with a look of war on their face, waiting for the rest of the group to leave the house. Gun Man looked at Nic Angel and asked, "Where's Smartz?"
Nic shook his head and answered simply, "Getting a change of clothes and a shower."
"She could've got a shower and a some exclusiveness here, but oh well." They both shrugged their shoulders and sat with their war faces on. When Gun Baby, Lady Gun, and Chevy left out of the house into the expansive front yard, their expressions never changed. Chevy and the rest of the group knew they meant business whatever thy had on their mind. Truthfully, only Gun Man knew what was going on, and he intended to let all of them know what he was on his mind. Chevy, with all 3G clothes on, starched and pressed, walked up to Gun Man ready to shake his hand. He brought his face real close to Gun Man's ear and he asked him, "You alright?"
Gun Man confidently answered back, "Yeahhhhh, just got something to show y'all." Chevy backed away from Gun Man shaking his head and fell in line with Lady Gun and Gun Baby. When he felt all of their attention was on him, he asked them, "Did y'all honestly think when we first formed this group that we would be fighting evil on this level? Like did y'all think we would become the barrier between Nashville's destruction and the safety of its people against forces that before were uncomprehendable? Did y'all know that we would be able to do this much good in this little time?" They looked at each other, each knowing the answer in their heart, each unsure of where Gun Man was going with this speech. "Did y'all ever realize that the polices would hate us because we were doing their job better than them?"
Chevy spoke up in a true class clown fashion. "I ain't gon' lie, Brody, I knew the police was going to hate the idea of a couple of black kids saving the city without they help."
Feeling offended the second time today, the girls spoke up. "Hey!!!!"
Chevy smiled, "My bad but y'all know what I mean. Yall were raised by the same mama as we all were except Nic, and he Irish, so I'm sure even he knows what I'm talking about. It's no secret that the police aren't exactly fond of the situation where we come from, the place where we all call hone. It's no secret that they'd much rather see us destroy each other rather than help one another." The ladies, Nic, and Gun Man all nodded their head, knowing what Chevy was saying was true. "That's prolly the reason why everytime we try to do some good, they try to lock us up, because they know we on to something good and they can't handle that."
Gun Man interuppted Chevy's speech after he had heard him make his point for him. "And that's exactly why I called y'all out chea'. Ya' see, we are the only people out fighting against these E-v monsters without some kind of mask. We may be able to protect ourselves but the most precious thing, the one thing the enemy could use to destroy us, we have been neglecting."
Gun Baby smiled and laughed in her heart. "So what are you proposing we do about that? I mean you can't mean you want us to...." She chuckled in her hand. "Wear masks like those old superheroes from those comic books in our old history textbooks?"
Gun Man laughed while Chevy and Lady Gun looked at her, then back at Gun Man. "Good one, wow G-Baby, I'm glad to hear you using big words." He answered back sarcastically. She stilled her laughs and gave him a look that was dangerous. He shook his head and smirked, hoping that would distill her anger. He sighed and continued his statement with various hand gestures. "My baby girl is right though. In her own young way."
Lady Gun rose an eyebrow and asked, "So are we getting costumes, Brody?"
"Hell no!!!! The days of the righteous Superman is dead. It died a long time ago. For a long time, there was only evil, so Nashville might not know how to handle the sight of capes, but let me tell y'all something. Y'all remember when I left to patrol the city?"
"No, Brody..." Chevy interuppted, "You remember without telling us."
Gun Man smiled and chuckled, "Oh yeah, I remember." He laughed while the girls rolled their eyes and Chevy shook his head. "But off that though, my point is, when I left I was running really fast, using grappling guns, and any other ingenius method I could use to scour the city."
"So what your point, Brody?" Gun Baby asked smugly.
"My point is, when I left here, I was walking, in an essence, when I came back, I flew back." The point he had been trying to make had finally set in as he had gained their full attention again.
Nic just continued to lean on the cruiser, nodding his head to Gun Man's voice as Chevy stepped toward his best friend. "What you talking 'bout, Brody?"
Gun Man smiled. "I can show you much better than I could tell you." And thus he began his transformation into his more powerful form. His shadow began to overtake his epidermis. The round pools of energy began to sprout all over his body as Chevy, Gun Baby, and Lady Gun stood with shocked faces. They watched Gun Man's eyes turn from beautiful brown into intense yellow scopes and fear stung their hearts when he revealed his new set of viciously sharp teeth in a smile while a larger pool of energy appeared in the center of his torso. With his transformation complete, he reintroduced himself with an eery, mechanical hybrid of his voice. "And by the way, the name is Gun Man."
Their eyes were the size of oranges. Gun Baby clapped her excitedly as she asked loudly, "How did you do that!?"
Gun Man smiled, loving the way she sounded when she was excited. Reminded him of the twin sister who was minutes younger than him. His baby sister. The only evidence that he had a mother. The last person to have any connection with her. The baby who killed her. Gun Man shook his head to avoid the thoughts and he smiled again. "You can do it too." He answered confidently. "You see, I have mastered this technique and figured out that this is the next step to our evolution as E-vs. We've been managing to battle other E-vs who have mastered this ability to change into their true forms, but no more will we manage. No more will we expose ourselves to these villains giving them permission to invade our home, find our families, kill the people we love. Nah, bump that! Now we take it to them, giving them the best of us at least the best of us right now!"
They all smiled. Lady Gun had to ask, "How did you...."
"You wondering how I discovered this power?" Lady Gun couldn't hide her fear of Gun Man's new voice as she nodded her head 'yes'. She knew the answer would scare her even more, so she braced herself as much as she could before hearing the answer. "I discovered this newfound power of mine fending for my life against an unbeatable foe, one of the members of the Thirteen."
They all were shocked, mouths hanging open, in fear of the name, Thirteen, but only Gun Baby held on to her natural, childlike curiousity. She was the only brave enough to ask, "How do I get powers like that?"
Gun Man smiled and raised his hands level to the large energy pool in the middle of his torso. Just then, every one of the energy pools on his body glowed brightly as a concentrated ball of energy appeared between his hands parallel to the energy pool on his torso and with one word, he explained how he got his new suit and his new abilities. "Concentration."
Gun Baby looked at Chevy with a bewildered look and he looked back at her, shrugging his shoulders. He had no idea either. While those two stood staring at each other in confusion, Lady Gun closed her eyes and begun to concentrate all of her knowledge of her Gun abilities into one spot, imagining what a being would look like with all of her potential and knowledge fully active. She envisioned two long smoking pistols being blown by a charismatic woman with long flowing hair under a cowboy hat. The cowgirl wore a short denim jeans jacket, a white undershirt that was cut off at midriff, and blue leggings complete with blue high heeled boots. While imagining all of this she began to glow. Chevy and Gun Baby turned around and stared at her while Nic and Gun Man just smiled. When her vision opened her eyes, one was revealed to be a red scope iris while the other one was green, and when she had opened her eyes, she had burst from her light cocoon and brought out into the sunshine anew, just as she envisioned herself, revealing herself to be, "Bonnie Bad Ass!"
Chevy looked at her, unaffected by her sheer beauty and asked feciously, "Really? Bonnie Bad Ass? Really?"
Gun Baby ran around Bonnie Bad Ass in circles, flailing her arms around and inspecting every detail. While Bonnie stood there under a microscope, Gun Baby screamed, "This is so cool! Look at her eyes! They have scopes in them! Look at those boots! Can I have these boots Bonnie! Gun Man check her out! Look at her jacket! It even has her initials on it! Check it out...BBA! That is so cool!"
She closed her eyes tightly and wriggled her little arms, Gun Man entertained by her childlike antics. When it appeared that she had calmed down, Gun Man began to explain to her, "That's Bonnie's, you don't mind if I call you Bonnie for short, right?" He pointed to Bonnie, and she shook her head, 'no', that she didn't mind. "You see, Gun Baby, that's her subconcious ability and potential flowing out of her body right now. That's what her mind imagined her at her most powerful state for right now, but it gets better. Just like anything else, the more you practice the better you get. Just like we develop muscles when we work out, we gain knowledge when we read and pursue knowledge, our potential increases the more we fight. Quite frankly, I'm excited to see my full ability. What about you, Gun Baby?"
He looked at her through his scope yellow eyes and he seen in her in a calm that he had never seen her in before. In her mind, serenity was found in the darkness as a blade the size of her body was found in her left hand and a pistol about as thick as her head was found in her right. She examined these weapons of mass destruction through her black scope eyes, seening every detail in her new pistol, every detail in her new blade. She wanted to name them, but the large black scarf wrapped around her mouth constricted her voice. That was when she realized that bullets had no names, and that she was a living, breathing weapon. She breathed the realization through her torso covered in a long sleeved skin tight white undershirt. The air of reality travelled all the way through her skinny black jeans all the way down to her high heeled boots that were identical to her sister's.
Outside of her mind, the group watched her shadow overtake her body. A few seconds later, she took a step out of her shadow with the only thing visible was her leg. Then she took another one and another one until her long ponytail and long, wild bang blew in the wind. Everyone looked at each other, feeling the emanent danger coming off of her body. It was almost as if they were standing in the presence of a murder. None spoke up, merely stared at her, but Gun Man being extremely of the creation he inspired spoke up and asked, "Gun Baby?"
"Gun Shadow." She said in a voice that sounded like it had traveled through a long dark alley before it reached his ears.
"Excuse me?"
She gripped the handle of the blade and hilt of her pistol with her gloved hands and that same airy voice came out, "I am Gun Shadow, The Living Weapon."
Chevy didn't have anything smug to say about Gun Shadow's name. It fitted her perfectly because she gave off the vibe of a serial killer's trademark knife. It was almost like Jack The Ripper's knives were standing in front of him. But he did have a question about the blade that looked like it was supposed to be God's steak knife. "What do you call that big ass knife you got?"
His joke went unnoticed as her dark scope eyes found their target in his soul. When her eyes caught him in their powerful gaze, he paused and his ears opened, awaiting for her answer, "Bullets have no names."
Her statement was simple, but everyone who gazed upon her saw the dark seduction that was Gun Shadow. Gun Man found himself attracted to the darkness that rested in her soul. He was always attracted to the bad girl, and Gun Shadow was bad enough to scare even him. He smiled and out of nowhere he said, "Sexy. I like your calm, Shadow."
He looked at Chevy with his scope eyes and Chevy felt like he was a target of some kind. Growing tired of being in the crosshairs of scopes, he exclaimed, "Yall gonna get enough of looking at me like y'all wanna do something."
Gun Man smiled wide, not taking his threat seriously since he was the only who had not been able to ascend to his full potential. "Well Chevy, it's your turn, baby. Show us what you got."
"What about ya' boy? He ain't transform yet, neither."
Gun Man looked behind him and his yellow scope eyes looked directly into Nic's green eyes. "That's because I think he already knows how."
Nic smiled, knowing that Gun Man was right. He did know how to ascend to his full potential. With all eyes on him, he took off his shirt, and every muscle in his body began to glow as tattooed multi colored four leaf clovers began to appear in various spots all over his body and when the last lucky charms appeared in the middle of his torso and on the right side of his face, he announced his name to be, "Lucky!"
Gun Shadow just stared at Lucky and Bonnie put the hilt of one of her guns and began to laugh lightly. Gun Man looked at Chevy and said, "You see. I told you."
Chevy clenched his fists, hoping that something would happen that would take away all of the attention of being the last one to find their full potential. He had hoped the scoped eyes of Bonnie, Gun Shadow, and Gun Man would look away, because in his heart he knew that he wasn't sure that he could complete the task as easily as the others had. He was unsure of his potential. He was unsure of a lot of things that were going on in his life right now. But the one thing he was sure about was that Smartz had been flying above them with a sense of urgency on her shell's face. The sky had grew dark again, and without even noticing it, night had come quickly. He didn't realize they had spent that much time trying to find their potential, buy sure enough they had. Chevy pointed upwards and the others had caught a glimpse of Smartz in the air.
When Bonnie, Gun Shadow, and Gun Man saw Smartz descending upon them, scowls had formed on their faces. They had recognized the shell she had wore. For Gun Man it was like staring into the past. For Gun Shadow and Bonnie, it was like staring into a mirror that reflected the pain of their past. They were staring at the face of their mother, capturing every detail of the woman who had given birth to them so long ago. The woman they had lost so long ago. Bonnie walked to the side of her sister, both gripping their weapons tightly with anger, and she whispered, "What gives her the right!?" Gun Shadow said nothing, just stared as Smartz landed.
Gun Man approached Smartz with intent to curse her out for a disrespect that was equal to no other, but when he saw the urgency on her face, he knew that it would have to wait. Before he could open his mouth, she vomited the information she had been holding in her stomach for so long, "Gun Man," She looked around and only recognizing Chevy and Lucky, she asked, "Who are they?" Before he could answer, she interuppted again, "Doesn't matter! We got problems! Those beasts that you guys defeated? Well they're back, and let me tell you they are ten times worse than when you first battled them. I was on my way back here with Nic's clothes when I saw random acts of terror happening all over the city. They are all split up all over the city, reeking havoc on an epic proportion. I don't know what they want. They haven't exactly made any kind of ransom announcemt. They don't appear to want anything else but destruction, and the worst part yet is that the police are nowhere to be found. Nowhere. We are the only thing that stands between them and innocent people. So I had to rush here as fast as I could." All of them but Nic looked at her with a certain suspicion. They wondered why the police weren't trying to intervene with the slaughter of innocence. They wondered how she knew about Blacc Panther and his pack of jungle cat hybrids. Nic could've told her about them, but how did she know it was them? Nic didn't even know who they was when they were fighting the Zoo Crew. Too many questions to answer, but no time, they had a city to save. "Where exactly are they now?" He asked blankly.
She sensed hostility coming from Gun Man's mechanical voice. She shook her head, feeling as though she had done something wrong. "They're spread out all over the city. It's becoming pandemonium. They have reports of a feral tiger beast on the loose by the Big Easy Bar, a cheetah hybrid woman racing on Highway 65, and a gigantic lion beast on the loose downtown, but that's all I know."
"What about Blacc Panther?"
"Who?" She asked with all eyes set on her.
"Blacc Panther. What did yo' reports say on him?"
She shook her head. "I don't know, but my reports have been telling me he's the most illusive out of them all, only being caught once."
Gun Man knew he had something to do with the capture of Blacc Panther, and remorse set in as he realized that something had happened to the Zoo Crew while in captivity. "I think I know where Blacc Panther is. Leave him up to me." He turned around with the scowl of a drill seargent and he begun to issue orders to the group. "Well guys, you heard the lady. Time to suit up and prepare to put these rabid animals down. As much as I'd have to, the Zoo Crew are becoming more than the nuisance they usually are and our days of straddling the fence of keeping them alive are over." He pointed to Chevy and Bonnie Bad Ass. "Chevy, Bad Ass, you two get Chevy's fastest car and chase down the cheetah. We gonna need Chevy's driving expertise and Bad Ass' aim to try and catch up to Sheetah. If y'all can, simply knock her out with some tranqies, but don't try to hard. This is a new breed of dangerous if you know what I mean." Chevy and Bonnie nodded their heads, acknowledging that they understood. "Gun Shadow, go with Smartz here to see about feral Tigre. I would say go bring some tranqs wit' ya, but I think death's going to be the only way to put that beast down." Gun Man shook his head, closing his eyes in disappointment. Even in his evolved form, Smartz could see the hurt on his expression. Gun Man thought to himself, "What's going on with Nashville to have shaking like this?"
He looked up, and before he could issue an order to Lucky, Lucky looked at Gun Man with determined green eyes and said with a voice filled with conviction, "The lion's mine."
Gun Man looked at Lucky surprised by his iniative. He liked that. He liked how he felt about Lucky being more of a leader rather than one of his soldiers. He regarded all of his friends as equals, but he didn't have to issue orders to him. He already knew the part he played, and Gun Man liked that. "I guess that leaves Blacc Panther for me, just the way I like it. Alright is everybody on the same page?" They all nodded as Gun Shadow relunctantly walked by Smartz's side. They all knew their roles, so Gun Man issued his last order. "Chevy." He lifted his head up to acknowledge that he had heard him. Gun Man smiled with that same vicious set of pearly whites and added, "Hook ya' boy Lucky up with the Cobra." Chevy nodded and tossed some keys behind Gun Man toward Lucky.
A beautiful sports came up from underground alongside an even more beautiful sports car, and Lucky just stood and watched the marvel he was witnessing. He picked his jaw up from the ground and looked at the beautiful, black and gold Cobra and he glanced back at Gun Man. "What you letting me get this for?"
"Oh you just borrowing it, homie. That's all me right there."
Chevy said, stating ownership to the luxurious masterpiece of a sportscar.
"I know, buy why you letting me "borrow" it?"
Gun Man simply smiled again, "Because you gonna have your arms full with the King of the Jungle, and I'm uh need you to get downtown as fast as you can."
Lucky nodded his head. "I got you." And with that, the plan was set. The wheels were in motion and the heroes were ready to prove that they deserved capes and masks like the heroes of old, yet show the world that they don't need the capes to soar, an attitude of the new age hero.
In mere minutes, Chevy found himself whipping around random debris and cars stuck on Highway 65 while Bonnie shot at the speedy Sheetah. Even with her newfound powers, Bonnie couldn't get a good bead on her target as Sheetah proved to be perfect at dodging not only the obstacles in her path, but Bonnie's bullets as well. Chevy did his best to catch up to the rapid movement of Sheetah but to no avail as the cheetah hybrid made the highway into her own track and field course. But Chevy remained calm as Sheetah maneuvered through the fields of cars, even the ones that Sheetah threw in his way. With the century old Notorious B.I.G playing through his radio, he kept his calm and screamed at Bonnie, "I wish you hit her, dude!"
Bonnie screamed back, "What you think I've been trying to do!?"
Chevy just shook his head. "I'm just saying. It would be a lot easier to drive if girl wasn't throwing cars at me."
Bonnie just shook her head as a though suddenly occured in her mind. Since she couldn't hit the cheetah hybrid, she took aim at a hopefully empty car in front of her and hit the nearest gas can she could find. The explosion shot Sheetah backwards into a car filled with a scared family. Their screams went unnoticed as her claws clinged on the metal. Her scowl matched the pain in her growl as Chevy swerved the car, giving Bonnie the one opportunity she had been waiting on. Bonnie took aim with her scope different colored eyes and filled Sheetah with enough tranquilizers to calm even though most angry of individuals. Sheetah growled sleepily before falling to ground as though she were going to take a permanent nap. Her snores were the only evidence that that they had to let them know that she had been alive.
Elsewhere, Smartz and Gun Shadow found themselves face to face with a snarling, feral tiger beast whose sharp teeth reflected the anger and pain burning inside of its heart. Gun Shadow walked slowly toward the beast with a confidence that shocked Smartz. Smartz screamed, "Hey don't you want to come up with some kind of plan before you go rushing into battle like this?"
Gun Shadow stopped for a second to let the pleas of Smartz sink in, but then her pace began again, stating in a calm, dark voice, "We have no time for thought, smart one. Now is a time for action not a time for diplomacy, Athenian." The beast growled and slashed at Gun Shadow. She saw the attack coming from miles away. She easily caught the beast's claws with her gigantic blade and pulled out her large pistol, unloading into the feral tiger man's torso. At first the beast looked shocked with a stomach filled with burning shells. Then anger rose from its soul as it began slashing again at Gun Shadow, but it was almost as if she were yawning while she deflected the claws with ease. The feral beast screamed with rage as its attacks were proving useless against the monster that was Gun Shadow.
Smartz stood by, jaw dropped in shock of the events that were taking place in front of her. She had never seen a human being, E-v or not, move as fast as she was. She thought she was watching a dream occur in real life. She wanted to help, but she couldn't figure out how she could possibly be of any use to the seemingly invincible Gun Shadow.
Gun Shadow continued to deflect the blows and shooting the poor beast until it grew tired. It backpedaled and regrouped, searching its mind for a way to defeat Gun Shadow. In its search to find a way to destroy its target, it imagined itself in a form that could move faster than Gun Shadow. It saw itself as little boy fighting in a lotus field, learning speed by slashing at the pink petals that flowed in the wind. Learning agility by catching the wind under its feet, and learning strength by and battle prowess by battling it's former feral self, and when it woke out of its daydream, it began its transformation. Both Smartz and Gun Shadow felt the power brewing inside of the light cocoon and they knew trouble was brewing ahead.
In downtown Nashville, Lucky exited out of the beautiful Cobra with delight as he saw the giant lion terrorizing the remaining citizens. He scrubbed the car with his shirt as his four leaf clovers were illuminated in the moonlight. He tossed the shirt in an open window and walked slowly as the lion beast stopped in its tracks to admire the brave individual who walked confidently toward a being at least ten times his size. The lion let out its infamous roar, causing all of the downtown residents to cower in fear, but Lucky continued to trot like a showhorse toward the lion. The lion beast didn't like the arrogant attitude coming off of the redhead advancing toward him, so it took one of its giant paws and flung a SUV toward the chiseled man. Even though the large vehicle had travelled at speeds beyond comprehension, Lucky still managed to dodge it with much ease. The lion beast began to fling more vehicles toward the young man and he dodged them just the same. With the cars forming into what seemed like a straight line toward his target, he had jumped onto each car with the grace of a swan or a frog leaping from lilly pad to lilly pad, until he had reached the beast itself. Their eyes met for a brief second as the beast discovered that there stood a man who was afraid of nothing. Not even fear. The lion beast roared its trademark roar, and Lucky sprung into action. He jumped up far enough to hit the lion beast in its larynx. The beast stumbled backwards and coughed, but seconds later it was back, lunging at Lucky with its great teeth, just barely missing Lucky's legs. He retaliated by chopping at one of the lion beast's teeth, causing it to break down the middle. The beast almost swallowed Lucky in the process of wallowing in pain. Lucky grabbed the beast by its bottom lip and was flung back on the lion beast's large mane, rolling down its muscular back. He took hold of the hair that travelled down its back. He stood on the beast's back in a powerful statement that told the beast he would never give up, not until it was defeated.
He jumped up from the muscular back as though it were a trampoline, and he came down with his fists together in a hammer, and he pounded into the back of the lion beast. It felt like a massive cramp to the lion, but it was enough to cause the lion beast's knees to buckle.
Lucky lost his footing on the lion beast's back and slid down until his feet became aqauinted with the air. For a moment he was weightless, free of all worry, until the lion beast's large tail whipped around and smacked Lucky out of the air. Lucky flew into an old building, knocking down one of the white pillars that held the building. The lion beast turned around, still in pain, and its blood red eyes searched through the rubble for any survivors. When the debris didn't move, the lion beast smiled, feeling as though it had achieved victory. That was until, a small rock had moved in the white, dusty rubble, and a pale, muscular hand had revealed itself to the night air.
Gun Man flew through the night air until he reached a gated community known to him his whole life as The Plateua of Safety. He knew his prescence here was restricted and he knew had he tried to go through the front gate, the E-v sensors would have went off and he would've been asked to leave the premisces on the spot. He knew he couldn't have waltzed in the front gate as Brody neither. Gated community meant restricted after seven o' clock to his people. Sure he and his family could drive through, gawk at the beautiful houses they could never afford, wave at the friendly white people who secretly hated his guts but after seven, all people of color and E-v origin had to leave. It had always been that way and will always be that way. Naturally, this brooded a sweet scent of hatred in his soul, but also brought about memories. He had remembered coming out here with his uncle plenty of times with his uncle to look at the houses he would one day live in. He remembered listening to his uncle rant about not being good enough for the white man's community, and he could remember saying that he wanted to better than good enough. He remember how proud his uncle looked when he said that. With that, Gun Man knew exactly where Blacc Panther was.
He walked several residential streets until he came across his dream house, the one him and his uncle stared at until the sun began to set and the security guards came and got them out of the gated community. The house that no one ever lived in and the one that Gun Man used to model his own house after. He knew it was there he would find Blacc Panther. He knew it was there he'd find his uncle.
He found Blacc Panther standing in the street illuminated by streetlights staring at the house. The stars seemed so much closer here as a wave of nostalgia swept over Gun Man. He stepped softly by his uncle's side and gazed at the grand house, still regarding it as the most beautiful house he had ever seen. Even now with his scope vision, he was finding more beautiful things about the house that he hadn't seen during his childhood. He never paid attention to the well manicured grass, noticing every blade was cut at the exact same height. He noticed the brick walkway that cut through that same cut lawn, a brick lane that used to be the walkway to Heaven in his eyes. That was his Thug's Mansion, and he knew one day he would walk through those stained glass doors into eternity. He remembered he used to daydream about carrying his wife through those same doors, and at that moment all of the old daydreams he used to have rushed into his mind until Blacc Panther derailed his train of thought. "Wassup, nephew?"
Gun Man shook his head, "Nothing, man."
His uncle's voice was devoid of hope. Gone was the radical, passionate voice he used to speak with, replaced by heartbreak and pain. It was like a blackhole was sucking all of the soul he was breathing in. "I guess you're going to be the one out of your crew to bring me in, huh? You gonna turn ne back into the police?"
Gun Man's mask fell and his once yellow scope eyes turned back into their brown doe eyes. He looked into his uncle's eyes with a look of sadness. He bit his lip, feeling that something had happened to his uncle and he made a promise to himself that he would get to the bottom of it. "Uncle Bobby, what happened to you, man? What they do ya' in there?"
Blacc Panther took his eyes away from Gun Man's powerful gaze and looked up into the stars. "Nothing that could break my spirit, son. But I can't go back, nephew, so if you here to take me back, the animal inside of me is itching for blood, and I would hate that the blood on my hands be yours. I don't need that on my conscious."
Gun Man looked away and shook his head. "I ain't here to turn you in back to blue eyed and curly head, Bobby."
"Well what are you here to do then, Brody?" Gun Man looked down at the ground and didn't answer for a long time. Blacc Panther smiled. "You here to kill me, son? You here to take ol' Uncle Bobby's life, dog?"
Gun Man brought his eyes out of the seclusion of his eyelids and looked back at his uncle and replied with tears in his eyes, "Only if you make me." He licked his lips as Blacc Panther glanced at his nephew only to look back at the stars.
He laughed lightly causing Gun Man to increase his sense of alarm. "So I guess you're telling me we can do this the easy way or the hard way huh?"
Gun Man was tickled for a second and chuckled. The tears were gone now. He smiled and answered, "I guess so, uncs. So how you wanna do this, baby?"
Blacc Panther licked his lips. "You remember when you told your pops about the time when you were a young boy and this older kid was messing with Kayla and you told him that I taught you that you should defend all the people who weren't able to defend themselves, the people who were oppressed, hopeless, and you beat that boy up."
Gun Man laughed, "Yeah, I remember. He never messed with her again. I beat him up good, yeah."
"You've always had that instinct in you that makes you want to help people. You've always known what to do to assist a person, even if they don't tell you, so you tell me, what do you think I want you to do?"
A single teardrop had fell from his eye. He did know what his uncle wanted him to do. Whatever it was that happened to his uncle, it had to be something drastic for him to want his nephew to take his life. Something horrifying. It couldn't have been just prison. As long as Gun Man could remember, his uncle had told him, "As long as the white man ruled the world, then the black man, latino man can always expect prison in their future. In this oppresive nation, with the options our people are presented, the only prison and death are the only things that minorities can be certain of. I expect it in my near future, but even after they lock up my body, they won't ever trap my mind. As long as I am able to acquire knowledge and uplift my people, my mind will always be free." It couldn't be death. He was asking for death now. He was taking a route that Gun Man's father had taken, and for what? The only thing that made sense to him was that it made no sense, but he saw it in his uncle's eyes that a storm was brewing, that a major conflict was going on in his soul. Blacc Panther was in pain, unimaginable pain. His mind was under attack and Blacc Panther's resolve was the only thing keeping him from releasing his true Evil form.
Gun Man began to transform into the form where he would be able to perform the act that Gun Man himself couldn't perform. Memories of the day he first discovered his powers flooded his mind as he saw the his sister gain her demonic powers at the same time. Her fangs were the only thing he saw before....
He woke up from his nightmare standing beside his uncle in a well tailored suit and a compact pistol equipped with a silencer. He whispered to himself, "Silencer," before placing the pistol to his uncle's head. Before he squeezed the trigger, a smile came across his face, and he was welcomed by death as the bullet entered quietly into his brain. Before he could fully collapse to the ground, Gun Man or Hit Man in this instance walked away knowing in his head that he had killed his uncle, the only blood family he had left in Nashville.
He pulled out his cellphone from his well tailored pants and began to dial Chevy's number. He put it to his ear and listened to it ring twice before hearing a loud noise in the background along with Chevy's voice over the loud rap music. "Hello?"
"Brody?"
He was unable to recognize the new calm his voice held. "Yeah, this me man."
"What's good, man? We got Sheetah in the back seat."
Hit Man closed his eyes and a tear fell from his eye. "Good. Blacc Panther is.....taken care of as well. That only leaves The King of the Jungle and Tigre left. I want you to go help Lucky. As Lucky as he may think he is, I think the E-v might prove a little much for our newfound friend."
Chevy smiled and his voice instantly developed into a voice of comfort. "You okay, man."
He didn't answer for a long time, letting his words sink in. The one thing Gun Man or Hit Man or Brody despised was having people know how he was truly feeling, the sadness he truly, so relunctantly, he put an empty smile on his face and he answered, "Yeah. I'm good. Just have a little tiger to put back in his cage."
"Yee."
"Get at me if y'all deal with the lion before I handle this kitty cat."
Hit Man bit his lip as Chevy answered, "Yeah."
"Yeah," and with that, Chevy hung up the phone. Bonnie, with her eyes still on the road, asked, "So who else are we putting in the backseat of the car?"
Chevy laughed, "I don't think we'll have enough room for the King of the Jungle to fit in this one."
"So it's just a good ol' fashion take down then?"
Chevy smiled. "Afraid so."
She nodded her head, understanding that they were to take no more prisoners. "How about Gun Man?"
"What about him?"
"How is he holding up?"
Chevy shook his head solemnly and answered with a low voice, looking in the rearview mirror to make sure Sheetah was still passed out. "Like anyone who had just killed their uncle." The drive became quiet after that statement as words seeped outside of the car and the sounds of loud rap music continued to blare throughout the viciously fast super sports car.
While Chevy and Bonnie raced downtown to assist Lucky, Gun Shadow stood face to face with a man who had the massive claws of a tiger at his fingertips and snarl that reeked of danger. His teeth portruded from his gums as the razor sharp edges of his teeth pointed with an intensity unlike any other jungle animal, yet Gun Shadow's black eyes did not have a a hint of fear in them. She gripped both the hilt of her blade and the grip of her gun tightly waiting for her target to make any sudden movements. The tiger man's sharp, jet black eyes did the same as they watched Gun Shadow's movement with a gleam in their eyes. Its stripes were ethereal on its forearms as Smartz watched the move eerily on its skin from a distance. She cupped her hands around her mouth and yelled, "Hey!!!!"
In that moment both Gun Shadow and the tiger beast she faced raced toward each other at such a rapid speed that Smartz could barely follow her even with the help of her enhanced, smart suit vision. They parried and dodged one another's attacks with such grace and beauty that to Smartz it was like watching two ballerinas parade around each other, leaping over and under each other. Gun Shadow's blade caught the tiger beast's claws and her bullets only caught wind as the bullets barely missed the tiger beast's flesh. It was clear to see that no clear cut winner would be found with these two. Neither one had an edge over the other, with Gun Shadow operating every move on her calm tacticality and poise and the tiger beast moving with furious animosity, trying to cut down the girl with one slash of his claw. Both using two totally different techniques and both having no effect on the other, they were stuck at a standstill. That was until Smartz heard the sound of tires screeching in the distance.
Hit Man had stolen a beautiful, black luxury car from the Plateau of Safety and had gotten to the battle scene as quickly as he could. Listening to a local artist, Hit Man seemed to be filled with an energy that could only be felt by him. His adrenaline was no longer pumping through him, it was merely coursing through his bloodstream, almost like adding gasoline to a river of lava. Hit Man was ready for action.
Even while driving, he could make out the poetic movement of the tiger beast and Gun Shadow. Their every movement was captured by his retinas. It was beautiful to him. But as he was admiring their fighting prowess, Smartz, thinking he was an enemy, shot a couple of missles toward the car he was driving. In his mind, he slowed the missles down and with the projectiles coming at him in their slowed state, the two fighters were also slowed down in his mind. They still moved at a remarkable pace, even in their slowed down state. Hit Man waited for the perfect opportunity to end this bout, but he knew that he wouldn't have time to wait with those missles heading his way. He had to act. He jumped on the seat and shot out the front window with two quick shots from each one of his silenced pistols. The glass cracked and he jumped through the front window, sending shots into the beast, while dodging the incoming missles. His shots had stopped the tiger beasts in its tracks, entering each one of its shoulders, causing the monster's eyes to bulge out of its head. While it was stuck in the air, Gun Shadow sliced open the tiger beast's stomach while Hit Man rolled on the ground. He jumped up while the tiger beast fell to the ground slumped over trying to keep all of the contents of its stomach in its body. The pain on its face was almost heartbreaking, but Gun Shadow did not feel any sympathy for the creature. If it had the chance to gut her, it would have and then proceeded to move on to Smartz. She just held her pistol in its face while Smartz just watched Hit Man make his way slowly toward Gun Shadow and the gutted tiger beast. Her hands were forward, palms facing Hit Man ready to attack until she looked closely at his face. It was then when she made a shocking discovery. "Gun Man?"
He turned his head in her direction sending chills up her spine. No, this wasn't Gun Man, this was another entity wearing his face. He sent a heinous smile and she knew when those blank eyes touched her body that something was very wrong with Gun Man. This was not the same man that had stolen a place in her heart.
He walked behind Gun Shadow calmly and tapped her on the shoulder. She used her enhanced periphereal vision to see the tailor suited Gun Man that stood by her side. Her large scarf covered her smile, but his next statement caused Gun Shadow to smile even wider. Anytime she was given permission to do something bad, she had always smiled, even when she was Baby Gun, more so whenshe was Kylie.
His statement was simple. "Finish it." She looked at the monster plead with its eyes for mercy, then turned to Hit Man and looked into his powerful brown eyes to see if he was sincere. He nodded his head to let her know that it was okay, and he pulled out his own silenced pistol for assistance.
As her gun blazed into the beast, it defiantly looked up at her, showing that it had no fear of death or the unknown that came after it. Smartz could watch no more as she turned away when Hit Man added his gun fire to the execution. She couldn't watch this bloodshed go on any longer.
While the tiger beast was busy being executed, Lucky had his own beast to deal with in the untameable lion. The lion giant proved to be tougher than he had originally thought and even though the deadly blows he rained on it would have proved deadly to any man or beast, the giant fearsome lion shook it off as a mere inconvience and nuisance. Lucky was fast, running all over the lion's body as though it were his own personal track and field obstacle course, avoiding its desperate paws clawing for a chance to get rid of the human flea running all over its body. Just when all seemed lost to Lucky, the supercar he had watched Chevy pull out of the driveway came veering in from out of sight with a crazy brown headed girl wearing a cowboy hat hanging out of the window, shooting at the beast. The car sped ahead at an incredible rate, flying through the beast's legs. While the car sped into the shadow of the lion beast's underbelly, Bonnie aimed her guns for the sky, bullets ripping apart the beast's muscular torso. The lion beast let out a monstrous growl and stood up on it's hind legs. Lucky, in an extreme sports fashion, began a controlled barreling down the beast's back until he landed on his feet on top of the super car.
Bonnie continued to shoot at the beast's back until it turned around seen them taking a sharp corner at an impossible rate of speed. The lion beast's eyes gleamed with an intense danger as it quickly turned around and chased the speeding car around the corner.
Back by Hit Man and Gun Shadow, Smartz stood dumbfounded by the body of the tiger beast. She couldn't understand why it had to die in the manner in which it had. She looked first at Gun Shadow in hopes for an explanation, but seeing that she would receive none from the seemingly remorseless Gun Shadow, she turned to Hit Man, who could only say, "It was necessary."
Confused by his calousness, she started to delve deeper into Hit Man's coldness, but before a word could leave her mouth, her eyes caught Chevy careening around the corner and a glimpse of the monstrous lion beast speeding around the corner after them. Her eyes grew to the size of the planet she stood on. The monster had saliva dripping off of its gigantic teeth on to the street below. Its snarl was fiercesome. Its eyes were the sane color as death and Smartz wondered to herself when the carnage was going to end.
Just then, Hit Man placed his silenced pistols below him in a ritualistic fashion and Smartz watched as the pistols disappeared into the air. Hit Man formed an upside down diamond with his hands and slid his hands backwards, forming a destructive missle lancher. Only a smile broke out on his face as he took aim with this weapon of mass destruction. The crosshairs fell on the lion beast's forehead and in a mere second a missle was launched from the weapon and into the monster's forehead.
The monster drew closer to the supercar, proving that no matter how fast you were moving, if somthing could take one step for every one of your fifty, chances are you aren't going to outrun the beast. The lion attempted to take a slash at the car but before its claws could land the fatal blow on the superfast vehicle, it fell forward with blood and brain fragments falling all over the car and the car surfing Lucky.
His disgusted look let Hit Man know that his kill was succcessful. He knew this because Lucky was still able to make a digusted grimace. When the car swerved inches away from Gun Shadow, Hit Man, and a still confused Smartz, Chevy hopped out of the car while Lucky hopped off of it. He picked random pieces of brain off of his face and shoulders and looked at Hit Man ungratefully. Chevy turned around and looked at his once pristine car in disgust. "Ewwww." He said calmly. Then he turned around and saw Hit Man in his suit, and he smiled, "You got clean didn't ya?"
Hit Man just shook his head, while Lucky interjected, "He's the only one clean," cleaning off the excess blood covering what seemed like his entire torso. "I got lion blood all over me."
Chevy laughed lightly, "Yeah well at least we alive, which is more than I could say if the police catch us with this bloody car. We gotta go. You riding wit' us, Brody?" Hit Man simply nodded his head and began to advance toward the car until Chevy said a phrase that stopped him in his tracks. "Cool, guess you and Kylie sharing the backseat with cheetah girl."
Everyone stared as they watched Hit Man stop in a contemplative state. "She's in the backseat right there?"
"Yeah, she still breathing and everything." Chevy looked down and saw the gutted, bullet ridden corpse of the tiger being, and he added, "I guess she the last of her kind." He shook his head, then looked up into Hit Man's dark deep eyes and added, "Why wassup?"
When he saw Hit Man's scowl, he knew he was going to say something unexpected for the sweet Brody and in a few seconds he would prove himself right. "Take her out the car." Chevy shrugged his shoulders without so much as a question, but Smartz knowing that something evil was about to happen, did have some questions.
"What are you about to do to her, Gun Man?"
Chevy threw her out of the car next to her slain tiger brethren and Gun Shadow stood idly by her older adoptive brother's side. Hit Man said nothing at first. He just admired the beauty of the monster that lay in front of him unconscious. She asked again only more loudly, "Gun Man! What are you about to do to her!?"
Hit Man's rocket launcher turned back into his two silenced pistols and he aimed his right hand pistol at Sheetah's spine, and he simply answered, "What is necessary."
The trigger pulled slow in his hand as Chevy, Gun Shadow, Lucky, and Smartz all watched. Everyone knew what was going to happen next, but Smartz was the only one who was able to realize that was going to happen next was wrong. Before the bullet could leave the silencing barrel, Smartz reacted, grabbing Sheetah off of the ground and clutching her tightly before the bullet found its place in the concrete.
She looked at Hit Man as though he were the devil while everybody else looked at her as though she were a leper. She held the unconcious Sheetah close to her heart like a mother would hold their own child, like Gun Shadow's mother used to hold her and her older sister. Her voiced bolted out of her as she directed a verbal assault toward Hit Man. "What is wrong with you!? Are you really going to kill the only person who could possibly help us track down the organization that did this to her!? That did this to him!?"
His blank stare hurt her heart. It sent a message that couldn't be relayed by words. They said her life wasn't worth the bullet he was going to place in her.
She attacked his stare with one of her own. "She's still a human being, which is more than I can say for you! What's wrong with you?" Gun Shadow took a place by his side and gave the hero with the image of her mother's face an unforgettable angry scowl that said, "I will gut you myself if you disrespect him one more time."
Smartz saw the anger brewing in Gun Shadow's eyes and proceeded with caution. She shook her head and continued, "It's Evil infected like you that used to make me fear your kind. Look at you. Look at what you've become. You're a monster."
For the first time, Gun Shadow's soft voice left from under her scarf. She clutched her blade tightly and said in her soft, dangerous voice, "If you feel so strongly about Hit Man and our kind, then I suggest you take your wounded and leave before you become one of them. You have already disrespected me and my sister in the worst way and I refuse to have you disrespect someone I love as much as Hit Man, so go."
Smartz, feeling offended, clutched Sheetah tightly to her and she she yelled, "Look I don't know what I did to you little girl, but you monsters don't have to worry about me no more. Nic, if you're coming, come on. Otherwise, I'm headed back to the compound to see what is really going on, and not just kill everything like these psychopaths here."
Her words cut Gun Shadow at the heart and she asked Hit Man softly, "Hit Man..." He didn't make a move, but she knew that he had heard her. She finished her statement with no sense of urgency, but her statement was a statement of emergency as everyone around them realized how far this situation had escalated to. "Can I kill her?"
Chevy quickly turned around, Bonnie hopped on top of the window, sensing her sister was in danger, and she placed her arms fully extended on top of the car guns cocked ready to explode into Smartz's back. Hit Man didn't say a word for a long thirty seconds, allowing the tension to build into an enormous proportion. Then he answered with a smile, "No Gun Shadow, you can't kill her. Bonnie put your guns down. She is only doing what she feels is necessary, so let her go play detective." He looked at her and his smile was so large that it curled. "I'm sorry that we proved to be monsters. Blame it on the way your society showed us love. Blame it on your judging eyes and then marvel at what you all have created."
They all looked around as the sounds of police sirens began to close in. The battle was so intense that they forgot about the surrounding innocents that stood watching. Chevy ran over to Hit Man, tapping his shoulders, yelling, "Yo, we gotta get outta here."
Smartz looked at Lucky and asked him, "Are you coming with me or them?"
He shook his head, disappointed about how their firs mission together had come to this. Segregation. He looked at Hit Man, and began to try to explain himself, "Look man, let me..."
Hit Man raised his hand to stop Lucky's explanation. "Dont worry about it, Lucky. You are always welcomed in my house, but next time, leave her at the house."
Lucky was hurt, but he couldn't betray his first friend, and he couldn't leave her all alone. He just shook his head once more and took Smartz hand. With Sheetah in tow, they flew off into the night with all eyes looking at them.
When they were gone, Chevy siezed this opportunity to let Hit Man and Gun Shadow know that it was definitely time to go. "Yo Brody, we gotta go! Get in the whip dog, we gotta ride!"
In true Hit Man fashion, he walked toward the car slowly as though he wasn't hated by the men who would be there any second. Gun Shadow ran around him and caught one of the newly opened backseats. She opened the door, ushering Hit Man to hurry. When he finally took his seat, he relaxed, leavin I all up to Chevy to get them out of there. And get them out of there he did as he sped off into the night with what seemed like a milllion onlookers looking at the speeding car drive away.
While they drove, they listened to the smooth sounds of the Spanish guitar. Chevy continued to drive throughout the night while lighting a cigar to calm his nerves. Bonnie became enveloped in light, reverting back to Kayla. Chevy passed the cigar back to Hit Man. He took it in the silence and as the smoke flowed through his lungs, a shadow grew over both Hit Man and Gun Shadow and they both reverted back into Kylie and Brody.
Brody took off his hat and rubbed his head, facial expression speaking volumes about his confusion on the events that just took place. It was almost as it was all a dream. But the heartache he felt for his uncle was all real. They rode in silence as the only ones were able to keep their eyes open were the Sleeplesses, Brody and Chevy, two brothers who were now both unsure of their mission.
